Dia de los Muertos painting and Saturday's Art-a-thon pics

Saturday's Art-a-thon was a big success raising almost $1900 for new studio spaces in the Art Factory 417. Don't know if I'll ever paint for 12 hours straight again into the wee hours of the morn but got to work beside many great Springfield artists. Above is the finished painting which I finished in 12 hours and will be displayed at the Lemon Drop gallery on Commercial for the 1st Friday Art Walk next month. Below are progress pics through the night that were taken by Meganne Rosen O'Neal

Alice in Wonderland painting in progress

Back to Alice in Wonderland paintings!

This is the newest painting that I'm working on. I'm about 7 or 8 hours into the painting. The scene in which the painting takes place is where Alice is inside the white rabbits house and she drinks the potion on his table and all of the sudden grows really big filling up the entire room. I've added some cracks in the ceiling and the broken chair to show her destructiveness. In the painting I've also tried to make Alice as sad as possible to show the predicament that she is in. Included is the sketch on which the painting was based and an earlier update. Alice has changed a little from the original sketch. More updates on this painting soon!

If you haven't seen already the Alice in Wonderland paintings are on SALE this month for 20% off to celebrate the Tim Burton's movie release of Alice in Wonderland. Can't wait to go see the movie it looks like a ton of fun :-)

Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac painting progress 1

Still have a lot of work to do but this gives you a good idea of where it is headed. The face needs a little more work and the white in the hair is basically to get a feeling of the movement of the hair before I start the detail. Stevie will also have necklaces around her neck. More to come!

I'm really enjoying this painting. It's been years since I've listened to Fleetwood Mac and am loving the music while painting. I think Sara is my fave Fleetwood Mac song.

Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns - WIP 2

Here is the newest update on the Steve Nash painting. Removed the hands at the bottom of the painting but will probably add them back in. The background isn't going to be the solid orange but am not sure what I'm going to do yet. More to come!!!!

Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns - WIP 1

This is a painting in progress of Steve Nash who plays for the Phoenix Suns which is my favorite basketball team. Steve plays the point guard position and has been the NBA MVP twice. This is one of those paintings that I've always wanted to do but have put off doing. If this turns out good I might have to do an Amare Stoudemire painting as well!

Violin Girl painting finished

It's finished in time and I took it down to the Conservatory of the Ozarks this afternoon where it will be on display and available for sale. This Friday from 5 to 9pm stop by the conservatory and view all the music related artwork and enjoy the Conservatory's singers. The Conservatory of the Ozarks is located in Chesterfield Village and the address is 2132 West Chesterfield Boulevard Suite 103 & 104D Springfield, MO.

The painting took me well over 60 hours due to it's complexity with the hair and the overall size. I was planning on making the background a lighter blue but it ended up being the bluish purple. Next up is another pet portrait!

- Here's a shout out to Brian for letting me use the wonderful photo for reference. Visit his Flickr page here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/coltfan909

Violin Girl Painting Progress 3

This may be my best painting yet even though there is so much detail it is taking me forever. Please click the pictures for more a more detailed view. After I painted the face I started on the hair and had to take a break so I've been working on the violin. After the violin is finished I'll start work on the hands. Have to finish this before the 18th of December so they'll be more posts soon.

Violin Girl Painting Progress 2

This is about 8 hours into the painting. This is about the 2nd layer on the face and I'll end up doing a few more to smooth out the shading and make it softer. This is my favorite painting that I've worked on in awhile.

Happy Holidays!!!

Violin girl painting progress 1

Here is the newest painting that I'm working on. It is of a girl playing violin. The reference picture (shown above) that I'm working off of is taken by Brian also known as Coltfan909. Please view his photos on flickr because he's letting me use an amazing photograph for reference and he's a really great photographer  http://www.flickr.com/photos/coltfan909/

The painting is one of the biggest I've painted in a while the dimensions are 34 x 48 inches (photo below). I'm doing the painting for the Conservatory of the Ozarks in Chesterfield Village located in Springfield, MO. They teach piano, guitar, violin, and also have vocal lessons. They are showing artwork at the conservatory on December 18th so the painting has to be done with by then.

More Soon!

Queen of Hearts WIP - Alice in Wonderland

This is the newest Alice and Wonderland painting. I've spent about 8 hours on it already and have quite a bit more work to go on the painting. The queen was modeled after the actress Monica Bellucci.

It was displayed for a luncheon for the American Heart Association at the Oasis Convention Center in Springfield, MO this afternoon. Great group of people and a very worthy cause.
