Joy Stone Illustration 3 - Tortoise and Princess Sighing Dove

This is the 3rd illustration for the children's book the Joy Stone. Not as happy with this one as the other two. I do like how the tortoise turned out though. This is one of the 1st scenes in the Joy Stone where Princess Sighing Dove is talking to the turtle and comparing how they are alike.

Joy Stone illustration 1 - Princess Sighing Dove

This is the 1st illustration spec for the Joy Stone children's book. The picture is of Princess Sighing Dove who is the main character in the story. She is very sad because she grew up without her mother and has never known true happiness. I was going to use watercolors but decided to go with colored pencils.

The Joy Stone sketches 2

This is a sketch of Atchitamon the chipmunk and Gray-paw the squirrel who are fun little characters in the Joy Stone story!

The Joy Stone sketches part 1

Just started a new fun little project illustrating a children's book called the Joy Stone by Reta Allen. The book is a about an indian princess that goes on a journey with animal friends in search of happiness. The first sketch is just a quick sketch of Princess Sighing Dove. The second sketch is of the Princess having a conversation with a turtle. I'm doing 3 to 4 specs for the book before it goes to the publisher.

alice sees the white rabbit painting progress 1

Been painting most of the day and got enough done to post some progress. As you can see the sketch on the canvas is very rough but once detail is added in the painting comes to life. I still need to do some more detail on the face and the hair needs polished and finished on alice. Overall pleased with todays progress.

Hope everyone enjoys seeing my Alice in Wonderland paintings!

Alice in Wonderland sketches for painting 1

Here are some sketches of my next painting in the works. If you haven't heard already the theme for my show at the Gillioz in Springfield, MO in November is going to be Alice in Wonderland. I can't wait to have my paintings displayed in such a wonderful building. The plan is to have 20 to 25 paintings done by November. Alice in Wonderland has so many interesting characters and themes. The scene in which I'm currently sketching is where Alice first sees the white rabbit. Once I sketch it on the canvas there will be more detail. I'm basing the character of Alice off of actress Emily Browning who has been in movies such as the Uninvited and Lemony Snicket.
